Realism and Idealism is our first pop-up exhibit with three talented Montclair students. We're thrilled to be sharing their work with the community before they set off on their next adventures in September. Stop by and meet the artists and see what they've been creating! Exhibit opens Friday at 7 PM and closes Saturday evening at 10 PM.
Ben Wilson is an 18-year-old Montclair born, Rutgers-bound artist who primarily creates portraits in acrylic that blend influences from European Expressionism and American pop art.
Janell Lee is a rising freshman at Hofstra University. Her medium of choice is usually watercolour, but she occasionally creates sculptures & ceramic pieces. For Janell, art is more than just a way to express yourself, it’s sharing a little bit of you in a physical form. “I like to describe the pieces I make as different; no two pieces go with each other. They change based on my feelings, the music I’m listening to at the moment, or the time of day. I don’t plan beforehand but that’s what makes the finished product even better.”
Steven Davis graduated from Montclair High School in June and will be attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His artwork has a child-like cartoon style and he often gravitates towards colorful palettes, while occasionally dipping into more mature themes such as monochrome and observation pieces. He draws his inspiration from various things - cartoons, video games, and the whimsy of everyday life inspires his art continuously.
