A tiny concert of epic proportions!
Come watch Scott and The Tiny Instruments play their tiny songs surrounded by tiny art! We are so excited to have the Tiny Instruments pass through The Creativity Caravan on their tiny fall tour through New Jersey and New York. Scott will be songwriter in residence during the "5 & Under" exhibit, creating new songs throughout the duration of the show. He and his band will grace the beginning of the month-long exhibition with his partners in crime singer/tiny piano player Suzy Rosenberg and Montclair's own Jessie Smith Edwards on cello. This will be a really fun event filled with unique covers and original songs about everything from bacteria, cactai, ducks, bees, butterflies, the moon and much more... mixed in with some story telling, a bit of humor and lots of surprises!
The Tiny Instruments began one day when Scott Massarsky was wandering around a local antique shop. He happened upon a baritone ukulele and when he picked it up was amazed that it was already tuned to open "E" a tuning he has often written songs in before. He purchased it right there and the instrument became a vessel in which songs began pouring out. It helps that tiny instruments are easy to carry around and so perfect when inspiration strikes. Since then Scott has discovered many other Tiny Instruments recruiting others into his revolution. Scott's motto is that everything is interesting . . . the big, the small and the microscopic! Each Instrument he plays becomes an entirely new landscape from which he builds new worlds and themes.
Scott H. Massarsky combines his love of art, music and the healing plants as a teaching artist to give fun, unique and informative workshops, lectures and performances. He graduated with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts where he studied panting, printmaking, book making, and art therapy. He has received grants from the Puffin Foundation for both art and songwriting and is a teaching artist with the Peace Garden Song and Mural project where he brings murals, music and mindfulness to schools. He has been practicing herbalism for the past 15 years and is currently apprenticing with Herbalist Robin Rose Bennet. He performs both with his band Scott and The Tiny Instruments, as well as solo and his music has been compared to the likes of Cat Stevens, Sufjan Stevens, Tom Waits, Phil Collins, and Eddie Vedder.
Other contrubuters to the Tiny Instruments are: Suzy "Tiny Piano" Rosenberg Jessie "Regular size cello" Smith Edwards Matt "the drum bhudda" Ollson
